Project Managers Program (PMP)

Purpose: These classes are designed specifically for PMs and may be taken as individual modules. Participants will learn readily applicable management skills, improve efficiency and effectiveness, and will have the opportunity to network with other project managers. Classes are taught by teams of successful construction managers, industry experts and interactive learning from each other.

Description of Classes:

  • PM As Team Leaders
    • Description: Learn and apply the theories of team leadership through an interactive exercise designed for construction teams. Discuss various leadership styles, see what works best in what situations, and anticipate what to expect from your followers.
  • Dealing With Difficult People/Effective Communication

    • Description: Learn how to say what "needs to be said" without generating further hostility, make choices that minimize conflict so that "have it outs" can become "work it outs", incorporate techniques which enable meetings to be less difficult and more efficient and productive.

  • Accounting Self-Defense for Managers
    • Description: See how contractors accounting actually works and why the PM drives the numbers. Learn how to maximize profit and cash flow, how to maintain financial credibility with management and "out-siders", and how to produce useful/relevant info about your projects. Concepts covered include % of completion calculations, changing profit estimate, getting your costs in, over billings/under billings and change orders.
  • Contract Killer Clauses
    • Description: Learn about contract clauses that often come between general contractors and subcontractors such as indemnity, payment, and additional insured. Learn how to protect your interests, minimize conflict, and transfer risk to parties most able to control it.
  • Understanding Construction Contracts
    • Description: Learn the differences/similarities in types of construction agreements (Lump Sum, Design/Build, CM@ Risk, GMP), understand contract clauses that seek to shift risks, and discuss contract formation issues such as: What happens if your contract or subcontract is never signed, conflicting terms in signed agreement, and change orders..
